In Reigate, Surrey, we had the pleasure of working closely with a local architect on their own home to deliver two bespoke double door sets that now serve as key architectural features within a beautifully renovated home. Both sets were designed in tandem to ensure a seamless visual relationship, as they sit within the same sightline and play a central role in shaping the home’s flow and atmosphere.

The first installation is a fire-rated double door set, positioned between the hallway and kitchen to divide the open-plan kitchen/diner from the entrance and stairway. This door not only provides essential fire protection but does so with elegance, allowing light and visibility to remain at the heart of the design.

The second set, a non-fire-rated double door with two fixed side screens, separates the front and rear of the property, creating two distinct living areas while maintaining a strong sense of connection.

When designing both door sets, it was imperative that they worked harmoniously, given their close proximity. The client opted for our dual Guarded handle option and a minimal two-bar configuration, with the horizontal bars positioned above and below the handle boxes. This ensured generous glass panels above and below, achieving a refined, uncluttered look that complements the clean, minimal aesthetic of the wider renovation, particularly the new kitchen.

On the fire-rated door, two vertical bars were added to subtly mirror the side screens of the non-fire-rated set, creating a cohesive visual language between the two installations. The client had carefully planned the layout early in the design process, allowing ample space at the base of the staircase so the fire door could open into the hallway rather than into the kitchen, preserving the sense of openness and uninterrupted movement.

Both door sets were finished in a timeless black, enhancing the home’s contemporary character while allowing natural light and views to flow effortlessly through to the heart of the property.
