This project in Burhill, Surrey, centred around the creation of a striking bespoke steel-framed entrance between the hallway and dining room. Featuring a double door set with distinctive arched side screens, the design was intended to become a key architectural feature within the home, combining elegant detailing with essential fire protection.

The initial concept featured an impressive opening approximately 2500mm high, with the client seeking a refined design that would complement the property's interior. As the project developed, the requirement for fire-rated doors introduced additional considerations, particularly around maintaining the slender profiles and generous glazing that were central to the original vision.

Following a review of the available options, our premium fire-rated system was selected for its ability to deliver the required protection while preserving the clean, minimal aesthetic. To accommodate the system's maximum height of 2400mm, we worked closely with the designer to explore adjustments to the structural opening. By reducing its height slightly, we were able to retain full-height doors without the need for an additional overpanel, achieving a more cohesive and uninterrupted appearance.

The design continued to evolve throughout the drawing stage, with particular attention given to the relationship between the doors and their adjoining arched screens. Initially featuring straight horizontal bars, the design was refined to incorporate curved crossbars that echo the arches of the side screens. This considered adjustment introduced a greater sense of harmony and continuity, allowing the individual elements to work together as one beautifully balanced composition.

To complete the installation, the client selected a brass knurled handle, introducing an additional layer of texture and sophistication. This tactile detail complements the architectural character of the doors, reinforcing the attention to detail evident throughout the design.

The finished installation creates an elegant transition between the hallway and dining room, with the glazed panels maintaining a sense of openness and allowing natural light to flow between the spaces. The combination of arched detailing, carefully proportioned steel profiles and refined hardware creates a statement feature that feels both contemporary and timeless.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful collaboration and meticulous design can bring even the most demanding specifications to life. By carefully balancing fire protection, architectural proportions and aesthetic considerations, the result is a bespoke entrance that enhances the character of the home without compromising the original design vision.
