Set within a penthouse apartment in London City Island, this project involved the design and installation of a single hinged door with a fixed side screen, carefully tailored to the unique spatial and aesthetic requirements of the property.

The client, a talented interior designer, commissioned the door for his own apartment, approaching the project with the same precision and eye for detail that defines his professional work. Initially undecided between a hinged or pivot system, he ultimately opted for the hinged door, pairing it with a side screen to allow the door to fold back fully without obstruction from an existing radiator. This consideration was meticulously measured and confirmed during both the survey and design stages, ensuring flawless integration within the space.

Finished in a luxurious bronze tone, the door set was designed to complement the apartment’s interior palette, harmonising beautifully with the wood-grain kitchen cabinetry, abstract artwork, and rich, boujee-luxury aesthetic of the home. The warm metallic hue adds depth and character while reflecting the sophistication and style that define the apartment’s interior scheme.

The client selected reeded glass for both the door and the adjoining screen, introducing a sense of privacy and texture while maintaining light flow and visual intrigue. To enhance the overall composition, the client requested additional steel detailing within the bars, forming true mullions where each glass pane sits individually within the frame. A thicker profile at the top and bottom of the door further accentuates the bronze finish, adding a subtle yet impactful architectural presence.

As a final design flourish, the client specified a full-length handle, running the height of the door to create a bold, elegant statement feature.

This project reflects a masterclass in attention to detail and design harmony, where material choice, proportion, and functionality come together seamlessly. The result is a bespoke steel door that not only enhances the apartment’s aesthetic but also stands as a reflection of the client’s refined taste and professional expertise.
